The HCPC has been informed by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) that our COVID-19 Temporary Register must close on the 31st March 2024.
The Government had previously decided that the Temporary Register would remain open until September 2024.
Before we received this news, we wrote to all professionals on the COVID-19 Temporary Register to inform them that they must complete a form with a series of professional declarations in order to remain on the COVID-19 Temporary Register.
This announcement by the DHSC does not change this process. Those on the COVID-19 Temporary Register have until 2nd October 2023 to complete and submit the form. Anyone on the COVID-19 Temporary Register who does not do this will be removed in October.
Those who have completed the form will be able to remain on the COVID-19 Temporary Register until the 31st March 2024.
Anyone who wishes to continue practising beyond this date will need to apply to join the HCPC’s main Register. Applications to join the main Register will need to be submitted in advance of the Temporary Register’s closure, otherwise professionals will need to stop practising from the 1st April 2024.
Andrew Smith, Interim Deputy Chief Executive of the HCPC said:
“The professionals on the Temporary Register provided a vital boost to the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all professionals who returned to practice in support of health and care services during this challenging time. As the COVID-19 Temporary Register comes to a close, I hope you will consider joining the HCPC’s main Register so that you can continue to provide crucial services to patients and service users.”
