Health and character declarations

We know that the processes in this guidance can be extremely stressful for applicants and registrants to go through and we hope that these pages can provide some reassurance.

The relationship between a registrant and service user is based on trust, confidence and professionalism. That's why it is important for us to check the health and character of everyone who applies to join our Register. This is to make sure that applicants will be able to practise safely and effectively within their profession.

If this is causing you stress, please see the support services we recommend.

What these pages cover

This section also contains case studies to help explain how you might assess risk, manage your fitness to practise and ensure you continue to meet your HCPC standards. These case studies are illustrative: they should guide, rather than direct, the approach you should take.

As with all our guidance, this should be read ‘in the round’, and we encourage careful and independent thought about how you can meet your HCPC standards.
