Direct debit collections

Paying by direct debit allows you to spread the cost of a fee over a longer period, so you don't have to pay it all in one go.

It covers either one year or two years of registration fees.

To use direct debits, you'll need to set up a direct debit instruction, which lets us make regular collections from your account. Your fee is then paid in instalments.

From 29 April 2025, we are phasing in a change from bi-annual direct debit collections to quarterly collections. This means applicants and registrants will be able to pay their registration fee in smaller, more frequent instalments. More information >

Who can pay by direct debit?

Direct debits can be used by UK applicants, applicants for readmission and existing registrants to pay their registration fees.

International applicants cannot use direct debit to pay registration fees.

If a fee can be paid by direct debit, you'll be able to select this option in the payment process. (You can also access step-by-step information for UK applicants and registrants making payments.)

When are the payments made?

Direct debit collections are either quarterly (four times a year, totalling eight instalments), or bi-annual (twice a year, totalling four instalments).

Your collection frequency depends on your profession's renewal window. For professions with a renewal window from 1 June 2025 onwards, collections will be taken quarterly. Before then, collections will be bi-annual. Read more about this in our news item.
